8mm Allen Key

Introduction

The MTX-75 is intended to be a sealed for life unit which doesn't require any transmission oil change. However if you are going to change the oil for any reason, here is the way to do it.

The oil spec for the gearbox is a bit confusing. For Mk1 the spec is ESD-M2C-186-A, on Mk2 and Mk3 the spec is WSD-M2C200-C.

Despite the difference in the spec, the US Ford has issued a service bulletin about the new specification oil available and the recommendation to use it. Here's the address:

I have personally switched and all i can say is that the shifting is miles more positive, although the half worn synchromesh was more obvious now coz of the slicker shifting.

Fluid Capacity:

Mk1 - 2.6 litres Mk2 - Pre 1999 2.7 litres Mk2 - 1999 onwards - 1.9 litres Mk3 - 1.9 litres
