The Ford Mondeo hit our roads in 1993, and has consistently been a sales success. Now on its 4th incarnation, it remains a drivers favourite.

All Mk3 Mondeos have a glovebox light, which is a 501 wedge bulb. You may think yours does not: here's what to check:

  • The glovebox light only operates when the glovebox is opened and the sidelights or headlights are on.
  • The bulb is rather exposed and may have been broken by someone carelessly putting something in the glovebox. Don't copy my example and find the shattered glass remains with your finger: get your head down in the footwell and look up at the socket, which is top front centre of the aperture. Alternatively, use a mirror. If there is a smashed bulb in there, use extreme care in removing it: you don't want glass or tungsten splinters.
  • Of course, the bulb could simply have blown. It's the same type as the footwell bulbs, so you could switch with one of those to test.
